Learning Community Events

There are a  few Learning Community events happening over the next couple of weeks: 

• First off, Thursday, 8/20 at 6:30 - we're meeting at the church to watch the next segment in the series An Act of Fear, called,  Don't Be Moved - the video usually lasts from 6:30-8 p.m. & is shown during the time that Jr/Sr High Youth Group is happening in the upstairs... 

• Secondly, next Friday, 8/28 at 6:30 we're meeting to be a part of the Joyce Meyer DVD conference called, The Battlefield of the Mind - it's about renewing our minds, taking our thoughts captive, & growing up in our relationship with God. The conference continues on Saturday, 8/29 at 4 p.m., concluding by 7 p.m.

August Happenings...

Sunday, 8/2 is "Salad Sunday" - bring your favorite salad to eat (& maybe even share) after church - be it Taco. Garden. Caesar. Chicken. Or even fruit salad... yummy yummy.

Hillside Learning Community opportunity - coming up on Thursday, 8/6 at 6:30 p.m. We'll be watching the video by Keith Moore called The Hedge of Protection. Youth Group will be meeting upstairs from 6:30-8p.m. & the Learning Community will be happening in the sanctuary during the same time frame.

Little Lites Spaghetti Feed & other stuff...

This coming Sunday, 7/19, right after church, Little Lites, the Monday-Friday preschool ministry of Hillside, will be hosting a Spaghetti Feed to help raise money for their Summer & Fall 2009 programs. So if you love spaghetti, make sure to stick around for a good cause. Any & all donations are welcomed!

Every month Hillside partners with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to provide hundreds of meals for people living in our area. Each $1 given to the Food Bank allows them to provide 4 meals - so if you'd like to be a part of sponsoring these meals, all you have to do is place your money gift in a Hillside Giving Envelope & designate the funds to "FOOD" - our goal is to give enough monthly to provide 10,000 meals. You can help make this happen.

7/12 Update

This coming week, we'd been planning on having a "Hillside Family Meeting" after church on Sunday. After thinking through it, I decided that it would be better & more appropriate to make "the Speech" portion of our regular church gathering 'about" the stuff that we were going to have a family meeting about. Clear? :) 

So, this Sunday, I'll be "speeching" on:

• Prayer & Fasting - & what I believe God is speaking to our church family about, esp. for this time, for us. This includes the purpose of prayer & fasting, as well as different ways to participate in it.
• Standing firm - in God's mighty power. Not taking our 'marching orders' from the difficulties we go through, or from our circumstances & how they make us feel. 

This is also Hillside's "Membership Sunday" - so we'll be revisiting what it means to be a member at Hillside, as well as receiving new members.
